Contemporary Textured Tiles

The days of plain and simple tiles being the main choice for homeowners are officially long gone. A move towards bright colours, shimmering mosaics and patchwork style tiles has become increasingly evident, as has a taste for textured tiles.

Embossed designs, tactile stone and raised porcelain are all great ways of introducing texture – but why use this style?

Textured tiles can be an excellent option for those who want to add interest to their décor but aren’t keen on using colour. More often than not, textured tiles are offered in neutral shades such as traditional cream, off white and crisp white. Many homeowners favour neutral tiles as these shades don’t date and you can still add colour accents through accessories, swapping these out if your tastes change. By adding detail through texture rather than colour, you can still create an exciting and chic edge.

A range of designs and patterns are available depending on the look you want to achieve. For a more traditional style, floral embossed tiles look beautiful. A high gloss finish will ensure that they catch the light and look attractive and different from every angle.

In a contemporary space, abstract designs in a crisp and brilliant white shade such as ‘New York’ (Pictured above) are the clear choice. The smooth lines work together to make a modern and unusual look that creates interesting patterns when lit.

This look may use neutrals but it certainly demands attention! Have fun with the designs and textures that you use and experiment with different lighting effects to get the most out of your tiles.
