Celebrate the release of Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’ with Art Deco style

Baz Luhrmann’s big screen adaptation of the much loved classic ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F. Scott Fitzgerald will make its way into cinemas across the country on 16th May.

Set in the roaring twenties, The Great Gatsby is told through the eyes of Nick Carraway who is lured into the lavish world of his neighbour Jay Gatsby. The two become friends but love, obsession, tragedy and revenge unfold… Widely considered to be the pivotal ‘American Novel’, The Great Gatsby has become as well known for its portrayal of the opulent Art Deco era as it has for its plot.

The Art Deco style remains a popular trend in the home. Angular lines, geometric shapes, mirrored furniture, dramatic blacks and striking metallics are some of the most recognisable features of the style. Clothing and architecture also took on art deco characteristics, with buildings such as the Empire State Building remaining as key examples of the trend.

This style is all about balance and symmetry with clean lines and angular shapes making up the look. Certain shapes are synonymous with the trend such as the Art Deco Fan which can be seen in our Artworks collection. These look great as a border, especially when coupled with the Metro high gloss Jet Black tiles, also from the Artworks collection.

Black and white are key shades and should be coupled with accents of gold, silver and off-white to complete the luxurious and opulent feel.
