Rock Your World

Earthworks wall and floor tiles were once pieces of stone, which were quarried, cut and transformed from raw blocks into what you see today. Different rock types have distinct characteristics and understanding these may help you choose the best type for your kitchen floor or bathroom wall.

Granite and basalt are igneous rock (solidified lava) and very hard wearing for heavy traffic areas. Travertine is sedimentary (layered sediments) and can have inherent irregularities such as pinholes; however its colours and veining outweigh any care and maintenance needed to keep it looking beautiful. Metamorphic rock was transformed over millions of years from sedimentary mud or shale, resulting in marble's veining and slate's layered effects.
